I worked with a programmer to create an iOS app called Typendium, a typography essay app. I was responsible for the UX design and all asset design. While developing this project iOS 7 was released and pushed minimal design. We were inspired by this to create our purely gesture based navigation concept. However, after friends and family struggled to use the app we decided our approach was too minimal so added navigation buttons.
Looking back, I think the design was a failed concept. It was such a unique way of navigating content on an iOS application that there was a big user drop off. I think it would have been a more successful project if it had been designed as a website from the start. Despite these failures, it was lovely to learn that university lecturers found the app useful in teaching their students about classic typefaces.
